Tip of the Month

Our Handyman gives you his Tip Of The Month.

SEPTEMBER 1ST (#9 tip of the month)

Crown Molding Installation Tip
(Buildings with concrete ceilings, you will be unable to nail the Crown Molding)

TIP

As always, SAFETY is #1. Remember your safety goggles and gloves:

Exterior Compressor Unit (Remember to wear safety goggles):
#1 Using 2” x 4” lumber cut small wedges to fit your crown molding size
#2 Install 2x4 wedges at 16” on center with construction adhesive (Hold back 3inches from the corner for your miter cut).
#3 Use small Finishing Nails to hold the wedge in place until the adhesive dries.
#4 Place small pieces of blue painters tape at each wedge. This tape will help you find the wedges when you are ready to install your crown.
#5 Install crown by nailing (at blue tape) to the 2x4 wedges.
#6 Caulk crown to the wall and ceiling (make sure to wipe off excess caulk with a damp cloth or sponge).
** NOTE: Pre-prime and pre-paint crown. After installation, just touch-up paint as needed.
